Charlie Billingham: Leave without second course (7)

Moran Moran is pleased to present Charlie Billingham’s first exhibition on COLLECT, titled Leave without second course (7). With the six paintings in this presentation, Billingham continues his ongoing interest in using fragments of 18th century prints and drawings as their genesis. Specifically, these new works use collaged and manipulated drawings by Thomas Rowlandson and James Gillray to form his own compositions. By repeating certain elements of Rowlandson and Gillray’s drawings, flipping them and moving them around, Billingham creates a heightened feeling of motion, emphasising particular aspects of these old satirical works. In addition to the digital presentation, this series of paintings are on view in his London studio, installed over a wall mural that was painted and printed using blocks designed by the artist to create a domestic interior.
